Hi, I’m Sam!

I've dedicated the last 15 years to learning about dog behaviour, so I can help dogs and their humans live happily and peacefully together. With postgraduate tertiary qualifications in Animal Behaviour and a decade’s experience working with shelter and pet dogs, I’m devoted to finding humane and effective solutions to behavioural challenges as well as optimising early development outcomes.

Qualifications & Experience

After completing a Bachelor's degree in Psychology/Cognitive Neuroscience, I went on to complete my Honours Thesis in Animal Behaviour. From there, I worked with the RSPCA for more than 5 years, training shelter dogs, group classes and individual sessions for behaviour problems. As well as training dogs and their people, I helped train new staff and volunteers and presented seminars. I also trained with the Brisbane Dog Obedience Club for around 5 years. Further education includes a multitude of conferences, seminars, workshops and other learning opportunities.

Humane, Science Based Methods

I use whatever your dog LOVES to motivate them and achieve our training goals. This could be play, attention and praise from humans, or as almost everyone loves, snacks!

The L.I.M.A. principle underpins all of my training plans- that is, the least invasive and minimally aversive approach possible. In other words, I am as gentle as I can be, given the circumstances.

I'm devoted to helping dogs and their humans strengthen their communication, helping each party to better understand each other and allow effective and long term behavioural change.

No painful equipment or physical punishment

Even for human aggression cases, I avoid the use of tools designed to cause fear or pain, and don't use physical punishment. Feel free to reach out for more information about me or my training methodologies via the contact form below, or call 0406 400 355.
